The 2024-2025 MST Careers Day was conducted successfully on 26 April 2025 by the Careers Guidance Committee. We gratefully invited 9 alumni to share information of different industries and professions with S3-S5 students.

 

The objectives of Careers Day are to enrich students’ understanding about the job requirements, work ethics and career prospects of different professions and occupations. Students can understand more about the trends in the career world which help them to make informed choice in their future study and career plans. At the same time, we hope that by sharing the valuable experiences of alumni, we can encourage students to develop a lifelong learning attitude.

 

Mr. Koo Fung, as a director of online media videos and commercials, acquainted students with his journey of entering the film, television, and digital media industry. He introduced the diverse roles of a content creator, including planning, filming, editing, and directing. Mr. Koo explained the production process of commercials and online short videos, emphasizing the importance of skills such as video shooting, editing, scriptwriting, art direction, and creative thinking. He also highlighted the ability of effective communication with actors, crew members, and clients during production.

 

We invited Ms. Lam Hiu Kwan to be our guest speaker. As the founder of an innovation and technology company, Ms. Lam introduced to students the future development potential of the innovation and technology sector. She also shared the latest trends, such as generative AI, the metaverse, and the Internet of Things. Ms. Lam delivered ample information about the process of bringing a tech product from concept to market. She also shared her valuable experiences in client communication and marketing, emphasizing the importance of skills such as programming, design thinking and data analysis in the innovation and technology industry.

 

As a professional architect, Mr. Wong Kok Ming provided detailed information about the main responsibilities of an architect and explained the complete process of a construction project, from concept development, design, approval, and construction to completion. He also shared the practical challenges architects face, such as space limitations and regulatory requirements, and emphasized the importance of teamwork and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Mr. Wong pointed out that architecture not only shapes the appearance of cities but also directly impacts the quality of life of people. In addition, he outlined the academic pathways and professional qualifications required to become an architect.

 

Ms. Wong Ka Man, currently serving as a regional treasurer at a large corporation, presented her early career experience in the banking industry and shared how she transitioned from banking to corporate treasury management. Ms. Wong introduced the role of a regional treasurer, highlighting key responsibilities such as fund allocation, cash flow management, and risk control. She also shared her experience in effectively communicating and collaborating with banks, business units, finance teams, and investors. Ms. Wong emphasized that in the fields of finance and treasury, strong analytical skills and cross-departmental collaboration abilities are crucial for career development.

 

Currently working as an Insurance Broking and Risk Adviser, Mr. Cheung Wang Yip Cyrus illustrated his role and responsibilities. He provided extensive information about risk identification and assessment. Mr. Cheung also shared his forward-looking insights on the future development of the industry. He emphasized that the risk management industry demands strong skills in statistical data analysis. Furthermore, he encouraged students to pursue professional certifications to enhance their competitiveness in future career development.

 

Mr. Leung Ling Hong Reginald, currently serving at the Airport Authority, shared his career journey starting as a management trainee at DHL. Through participating in projects related to Belt and Road initiatives, he broadened his international perspective and successfully transitioned to the Airport Authority. Mr. Leung introduced the structure of airport operations, covering areas such as terminal management, passenger services, cargo handling, emergency response, and maintenance. He also shared his experience in coordinating different divisions and contractors to ensure the smooth and sustainable running of the airport. 

 

Mr. Yuen Pak Man Carlton, currently serving at the government department, provided students with a detailed introduction to the process of obtaining professional veterinary qualifications. He also illustrated the major areas of work for government veterinarians, such as animal quarantine, animal shelter management, and disease surveillance. Mr. Yuen highlighted the essential skills and personal qualities needed to become a veterinarian, including compassion and responsibility towards animals, strong observation and analytical skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to emergencies. 

 

Currently working as a ward manager in a psychiatric unit, Ms. Lily Lam shared with students her reasons for pursuing a career in nursing, along with information about local nursing programs, nurse registration, and specialist training. She provided a detailed introduction to the daily duties of psychiatric nurses, including assessing patients’ mental conditions, facilitating psychological therapy activities, and managing crisis behaviours. Ms. Lam also shared her experiences of interdisciplinary collaboration with doctors, clinical psychologists, and social workers, emphasizing the importance of strong communication skills and crisis intervention abilities.

 

Mr. Elvis Wong presented his journey from studying Biology to engaging in marine conservation. He provided a detailed explanation of the daily work involved in coral research and outlined the challenges faced in conservation efforts. In addition, Mr. Wong emphasized the importance of public education and community involvement in supporting conservation work. He introduced the professional skills required to become a researcher and encouraged students interested in pursuing a career in conservation to start preparing early.
