Literature should never exist only by mean of texts, but also be experienced in life. The school organized a literature camp for our Form 4 students from 23-24 Jan 2025.
After touring the classical Lingnan Garden, students arrived at the Jao Tsung-I Academy, where they had a listened to the life of Professor Jao Tsung-I, a leading figure in Chinese studies, and learn about his contributions to Chinese culture. Students stayed overnight in the revitalized Grade III historic buildings. In such cultural atmosphere, students could explore a lot of things that are no way to be found in the bustling city.
Film appreciation was arrnaged for students in the camp to watch the award-winning film ‘Lost Love’. The film's director and screenwriter, Mr. Ka Sing Fung, was invited to share his creative experience. His discussion on narrative forms, hidden strengths, and poetic transformations undoubtedly inspired our students' creative thinking.
On the second day of the literature camp, we were glad to have Mr. Wong Wing Leung (Pen name: Red Eye), a local writer and editor-in-chief of the literary magazine ‘As artistic as you’ to share his writing experience with students in a light-hearted and humorous way. Red Eye focused on the topic of ‘what is a good article’ and explained it from a variety of perspectives, including social media, exam materials, and even Laozi and Tao Yuanming, to bring out the importance of ‘accumulative writing standards’.
The literature camp promoted students’ exchange and learning in literary art, boosted up on their understanding of Chinese culture and gave them a new appreciation for literary creation. There is no doubt that this learning experience will impose positive impact on students to create more interesting and profound works.
