The 2023-2024 MST Careers Day was conducted successfully on 6 July 2024 by the Careers Guidance Committee. With the help of the Alumni Association, we have invited 9 alumni to share information of different industries and professions with S3-S5 students.
The objectives of Careers Day are to enrich students' understanding about the job requirements, work ethics and career prospects of different professions. Understanding more about the trends in the career world enables students to make informed choice in their future study and career plans. At the same time, by listening to the alumni's sharing, students are encouraged to develop a lifelong learning attitude.
Mr. Angus Chu acquainted students with the work in the surgical field. He delivered ample information about the requirements of surgical training. He also explained the required professional qualifications in the surgical industry. His sharing was insightful and enabled students to understand the personality traits and dedication required to become a successful surgeon.
Ms Chee Tak Yee introduced students to the nursing profession. She provided detailed information about the training requirements for nurses and explained the professional qualifications necessary in the nursing field. Her insightful presentation helped students grasp the personality traits and commitment needed to pursue a career as a registered nurse.
Mr. Mak Ya-yeung, Terry shared his work experience in the civil engineering industry. He also presented his professional knowledge on project management and infrastructure development. In addition, he provided valuable advice on job searching, including various pathways to enter the civil engineering field and the opportunities available within the industry.
Mr Law Siu Shan provided extensive information about the latest developments in the IT management field. He helped students gain a better understanding of the career paths of becoming an IT manager. His presentation highlighted how the training in Astrophysics enhances his careers development in the field of information technology.
Ms Wong Sin Ling shared her valuable experiences of pursuing a niche field, European Studies, and the unique career opportunities it has presented. Her talk inspired students to explore unconventional fields and consider the varied opportunities they offer.
Ms Tung Yik Ling Elaine, shared her valuable experiences, difficulties, and challenges of being a slasher. Her journey as an event planner, professional emcee, and voice-over artist provided students with insights into future career development. She encouraged students to reflect on whether they possess the qualities needed to succeed as an event coordinator, emcee, or voice-over artist, highlighting the diverse opportunities available in these fields.
Ms Lee Sonia Chi-tung shared her valuable experiences, challenges, and insights into her slasher lifestyle. Her diverse roles as a social worker, financial planner, illustrator, and pet sitter illustrated the variety of career paths one can explore. She emphasized the idea that "all roads lead to Rome," encouraging students to try different paths. Her talk provided students with a broader understanding of the possibility and opportunities in pursuing multiple careers simultaneously.
Mr Frederick Cheng shared his forward-looking insights on financial technology. He illustrated how fintech is driving innovation in financial services globally and changing the nature of commerce. In addition, he provided a lot of information about developments of electronic payments in Hong Kong as well as his entrepreneurial spirit.
Dr Cheung Kin Keung Dennis, the Wealth Management Director of an insurance company and a social enterprise founder, shared his diverse experiences in the financial industry. He highlighted the importance of having a multifaceted skill set and emphasized how analytical thinking and innovation are crucial for success in finance. His talk provided students with valuable insights into the dynamic nature of the financial sector and inspired them to pursue varied and innovative careers in this field.
