'Student Gatekeeper' inter-school training day camp
2024-04-20

The wheel of time propels social progress, but the ever-changing environment can also suffocate people, giving rise to numerous mental health problems.

Students play a crucial role in assisting in the identification and support of their peers who are emotionally distressed. Therefore, our school has participated in the‘Student Gatekeeper' training program organized by the Education Bureau this year, nominating 22 students to serve as guardians. They will undergo a series of school-based and inter-school training, learning about methods to maintain mental well-being, common mental illnesses, and practical techniques to care for their peers. They will also organize various forms of mental health promotion activities at school to enhance the awareness to mental health among all teachers and students.

On 20 Apr 2024, the Student Gatekeepers participated in an inter-school training day camp held at the HKAYP Jockey Club Duke of Edinburgh's Training Camp in Hong Kong, arranged by the Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service. Through team-building exercises, role-playing, and challenging checkpoint games, the students greatly enhanced their sense of cooperation, problem-solving abilities, and basic conversational techniques for caring for others.

Promoting the mental health of students requires the collective involvement of various stakeholders. Let us make joint efforts to establish a comprehensive caring campus!
