The Power of a Dream—An inspiring talk by Ms. Wu Jing
2024-10-31

Our school was honoured to invite Ms. Wu Jing, a Paralympic athlete and a blind flutist, to share her life experiences and insights with students on 31 Oct 2024.

In her talk, Ms. Wu recounted her childhood experiences, particularly how her parents influenced the development of her resilience and optimism. She emphasized the importance of setting ambitious goals and believed that anything is possible with determination. Ms. Wu received offers from six universities, including Harvard and Yale, with some even offering full scholarships. As a result, she was accepted into several prestigious universities in the United States. Despite facing the challenge of visual obstacles, Ms. Wu confidently forged ahead—whether striving for excellence as an athlete or diligently studying English. Throughout her journey, she consistently demonstrated a strong will, clear goals, and independence, qualities that helped her overcome numerous challenges in her flute studies.

Ms. Wu believes that life is a continuous journey of self-discovery and challenges. She encouraged students to have their own pursuits and dreams while also urging them to pay attention to individuals with special needs. Her reflections on reality and destiny deeply inspired the audience.

After that, Ms. Wu joined one of our school’s students in performing "Ave Maria." The piece evokes a sense of peace and reflection, inviting students to contemplate themes of love, faith, and hope.

Finally, Ms. Wu interacted with the students during a Q&A session, discussing her favorite flute pieces and the transition of her career from sports to music. She expressed her belief in the power of love as a significant source of encouragement and shared how music allows her to feel and connect with the world.

Ms. Wu guided our students in their growth and helped them realize that they can shine like crystals. Therefore, our school prepared a special gift for Ms. Wu, a custom lotus crafted using our 3D printing technology, symbolizing her noble character. The talk concluded on a note of reflection and inspiration, motivating students to pursue their dreams.
